Call it continental drift --in the third year of the school's Country Celebration for sixth-graders , student displays and food samples have outgrown a single classroom. South America, Africa and Asia moved into the library.

Parents perused the many booths, sampled the native fare prepared by cartier sunglasses the children , admired the costumes and heard brief presentations on facts of importance pertaining to the chosen countries. The other classes at Holy Spirit also passed through the rooms to brush up on geography.

For many students, the event, which was the culmination of a social studies curriculum focusing on world history from prehistoric times to World War II, afforded the opportunity to learn about personal heritage and to question relatives about cultural traditions.

Alexus Phongthai-Yochum chose Thailand and brought Pad Thai for others to sample. Her father was born in Thailand and moved to the U.S. during his childhood.

"He talks about it a lot," she cartier sunglasses said.

She said her grandparents, who now live in Boise, still adhere to the customs of the country and wear the native outfits, similar to the striking blue garb she wore to class that day.

"I have an aunt, and this was hers," Phongthai-Yochum said.

Alexa Pharis telephoned her aunt in London for her report. Pharis, dressed in a Buckingham Palace guard's outfit she got through the Party Palace, got the idea from her aunt to make "Toad in the Hole." It's a dish featuring sausage amid Yorkshire pudding, topped with onion gravy.

In researching her project, Pharis learned that the Eye of London is a giant Ferris wheel --and that Robert Pattinson, the coach bags star of the movie "Twilight," was born in London in 1986.

Preparing for the celebration resulted in some fun bonding time for Miranda Navarro and her mother. Navarro chose France.

"Paris is known for its fashion," said Navarro, sporting a coach bags stylish French outfit she picked out with help from her mother's keen fashion sense.

She also brought crepes.

"I like to cook," Navarro said. "We might use the leftovers tonight to make some more."

At least one parent in attendance could speak with authority on every booth in both classrooms. Cynthia Billmeyer has traveled to each country, including with her daughter, Allison, to Croatia.

Billmeyer approached Ian Stites, who represented Canada and politely asked if she might assess his Nanaimo bars, a Canadian staple.

"May I?" she asked, then gave her verdict --"I think they're very authentic."
