Thanks Chicago comics!!!
Posted On 05/10/2009 01:21:11

And yes I have discovered I WILL come back at the end of the month for a much demanded stand up comedy writing seminer dojo in Bolingbrook. Thanks much to all the comics and newbies for showing up at my shows and dojo this weekend at Walter Payton's Roundhouse annnnd for wanting even more Chili! It was an overwhelming response ;) Many are starting to realize the dojo is beyond comedy classes- it's an education!

You can find comedy classes anywhere but there's only one dojo and it's grad school!!!! I like that -thanks for everything! See you all at the end of the month. Now back to UofM for more academia...lol.

Also thanks to UofM profs of theater for working with me on a brand new restructured dojo...to be unveiled in Bolingbrook. You just can't beat higher education.

your chill

College profs digging the comedy!
Posted On 05/06/2009 11:37:51

I have a new unexpected fan and so indeed does stand up. The senior Vice Provost of University of Michigan shook my hand excitedly last night and said I was hilarious! He even made a special appearance at my rehearsal last week.

The preview of Stand up Teaching was a hit! There's still more to do but this program/show will soon be ready to travel and is already causing some watercooler talk around the country. UofM is hearing from colleges all over and so the humor study continues and UofM leads the way.

It's been said that profs are already quoting some of my jokes from the show...I know in fact the Senior VP is lol.

Side bar...Kevin Eubanks is a new follower of mine on Twitter and else where....I knew he was the smart one at the Tonight Show...LOL.

Can you tell I'm still having fun with all of this? Man once you get beyond the absurdity and can see through the game you can just relax. That is THE 'Secret'! I've always known it...didn't have to take a freakin seminar and listen to audio CD's. lol

Studying humor? Journey to the Center.
Posted On 04/15/2009 22:11:51

It seems I have found myself right smack in the middle of the universe for studying humor. According to a new research poll the University of Michigan is now offically the center of humor studies of the entire world -very intense  research is being done there to study how humor is effective in helping to heal, releave pain,  cope with stress and now- to educate.

Sooo if I could blow my own horn...I couldn't be happier to have long been part of this in my own way having held my stand up classes (6 years running the comedy dojo as it's called)  at the historic Comedy Showcase comedy club right on campus in Ann Arbor, MI. In this class I have had some of Ann Arbor's finest, business owners, police officers, students, professors, and a ton of funny people from Detroit and surrounding areas.

Presently I am directly involved (which means I have college funding baby!!!) in writing a standup comedy project along with 'artist in residence'- theater director of the university (one of my students in the dojo by the way). Once completed it will be performed at colleges all over the country to help aid educators in the use of comedy. We already have a waiting list of universities to see it.

Perhaps comedy is finally getting the respect it deserves as not only an art form but a necessary part of human existence. I can only dream.

Wish me luck my friends. As a person who has been obsessed with stand up since the 5th grade this former staff writer for NBC's the Tonight Show is finally feeling very centered!
