The May 14 Columbian story Gay-bashing church plans picketing at Heritage High, informed us that the Rev. Fred Phelps from Westboro Baptist Church will be in our community to protest against those rebellious brats and lying teachers at Heritage High School. As an American citizen, Phelps and his followers have the right to publicly demonstrate wherever they wish to do so.
I Googled Reverend Phelps and read about his church. I also watched a few of the video clips on the site. I find his philosophy of Christs love and his actions to be repulsive and rude. He has also led demonstrations at the funerals of our young people who have died in the current war efforts. I cannot imagine what the families of these young people feel when he shows up with his ugly and hateful picket signs.

On June 1 at 2:15 p.m., I will be at Heritage High School, standing across the street from the reverend and his flock. Imagine the beauty and dignity of a counter-demonstration where hundreds of Clark County citizens give Phelps and his flock their backs. I invite all who can attend this demonstration to do so. I suspect that the students and staff of Heritage would be appreciative of our support.

No immunity to unplanned pregnancy
May is National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month. In 2008, there were 11,901 teen pregnancies in Washington. A frightening number if you have teens. Teenagers are curious, and often have sex. No teen is immune to teen pregnancy. We need to do more to make sure teens have accurate information on these life-changing issues.
Many parents get uncomfortable giving teenagers information about sex, but today is exactly the time to do it. Teens need to know about contraception, STD prevention and abstinence. Parents want what is best for their children. But not all parents know how to tackle this sometimes embarrassing topic, or are too busy to even think about this major issue affecting their family. If you sit your teenager down to have this talk now, youre not only instilling your personal beliefs and values but giving them the right information to make smart choices. Otherwise they find the information they are curious about from their friends, the Internet or the media.
Dont put this off until tomorrow. Lets give all teens the skills, support and opportunities they need to have a successful, healthy and happy future.

Exception to rule shouldnt be allowed
The Washington State Department of Health is proposing a rule entitled Safe and Effective Analgesia and Anesthesia Administration in Office-Based Surgical Settings. The rule will require physicians who perform surgery in an office/clinic setting outside of a hospital to obtain certification by a professional accrediting organization regarding the safety and professional standards followed in their office/clinic. An exception is made for abortion clinics which may be accredited by Planned Parenthood America (the largest provider of abortion in the country) or the National Abortion Federation (an abortion industry lobbyist). Evidently, the abortion industrys clients, all pregnant women, dont require the same standard of care as your local plastic surgeons office.
So call your local legislator and demand action. Go to Clark County Right to Life website, , and click on CCRTL Action to learn how you can make a public comment about the proposed rule before the May 25 deadline. Finally, click on the Maafa 21 icon on the same website. You wont ever look at America with the same eyes again.

Defeat knocks out bridge advocate
The news from the other side of the river, from Oregons primary on May 18, was another nail in the coffin for the Columbia River Crossing. The biggest supporter of a 12-lane bridge, Rex Burkholder, was defeated for Portland Metro President. With voters in Vancouver defeating bridge-toll proponent Royce Pollard last November, there are now fewer advocates for tearing down two perfectly good bridges and bringing crime-riddled light rail into Clark County.
The fraud, waste and abuse for the phantom bridge consultants cost exceeds $100 million. Thats right, $100 million spent on planning for a bridge that may not be built. The same amount of money, $100 million, could have already built a third bridge across the Columbia without any tolls or light rail.

Siphoning oil fails to stop spill
Right now, the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is a witches MBT Shoes brew. Instead of trying to stop the cauldron from spilling over, they, instead, chose to put a straw in it and suck part of the brew out. That does nothing to stop the spill, but, instead, lets the oil companies continue to enjoy their crudeness and continue to make a profit while the Gulf is decimated.

Hamm attempting comeback
Win or lose, Paul Hamm wants his career to end in the arena, not on the sideline.
The 2004 Olympic all-around gymnastics champion told the Associated Press on Tuesday that he has quit his job as a finance trader and is heading back to the gym to start training full-time, in hopes of making the U.S. team for the London Games in 2012.
Hamm made the 2008 Olympic team but a broken bone in his hand and an injured shoulder forced him to withdraw a few weeks before the Games.
